How You Can Trick Your Metabolism To Help Keep Your Weight Loss From Hitting a Plateau

By Wilson Resturbee

If you're like most of the people out there, you will have tried a few different diets and achieved a different degree of successes. You probably lost a little bit of weight, got to a certain point and then, no matter what you tried, couldn't lose any more. This plateau is hit by just about everyone and is common amongst the various eating plans. There exists a new way of bypassing this plateau by working to trick your metabolism.

You most likely have already reached the plateau at least once--in fact, it has most likely caused a frustrating end to more than one diet program. This is an unusual thing that takes place to even the most successful dieters sometime close to the third or fourth week of the diet they have selected. Up to that moment, the weight drops off and then it just stops and absolutely nothing you do can get your body to get rid of more weight. This is the way your body reacts to the adjustments that you've made. Your body decelerates your metabolism when you arrive at this point since it wants to protect you from accidental starvation. What this does, then, is prevent your body from losing any more excess fat.

This is what makes a lot of people believe that they simply aren't capable of achieving their weight loss objectives and they quit. At this stage , a lot of people get back to eating and start putting on back their weight usually more than they lost to begin with. The way to prevent this is simply by using a diet where you shift calories. What you want to do is eat a different number of calories each day, which purportedly helps you trick your metabolism. If this works on your body it will not enter "protective" mode. This helps to keep your body's metabolism working, as opposed to slowing down, and your body continues to drop some weight. As you reach this point, you have passed the plateau and your diet will continue to work the way that it was meant to.

It is not difficult to work this plan into your daily routine. Probably the most popular method of caloric cycling is the 14 day method. In this plan, you follow your diet for eleven days and then on the 12, 13 and 14th days you eat the things you truly would like to eat. Move your food throughout each day to trick your metabolism and then eat anything you want to keep yourself from getting to the plateau. This is also quite handy in keeping you on course with the stricter dieting programs. You can keep repeating these 14 days until you truly feel satisfied with the amount of weight you have shed.

One other popular program is the 2 day plan in which you eat as normal one day and the next day reduce your calories by between twenty and thirty five percent. You do this every couple of days for as long as it takes you to arrive at your weight loss targets. This is a program that is deserving of your attention since it could be just what you need to pass your plateau and drop all of the weight you would like to lose.
