Gifts That College Students Will Love

By Elba Fenwick

While going away can be a lot of fun and a chance to gain some independence, college students need a little something to lift their spirits and cure any bouts of homesickness. If the student in your life needs a little TLC, here are a few gift suggestions they are sure to enjoy.

While college food has probably improved in the last few decades, it's still not five-star cuisine. So it might be nice to treat your student to a special culinary treat such as chocolate pizza. College students do eat a lot of pizza, but chocolate pizza is a treat like no other. The Chocolate Pizza Company creates this delectable specialty which begins with a blend of the finest dark or milk chocolate and handmade English-style toffee. This "crust" is then topped with a mix of nuts and white chocolate drizzle. Other topping options include M&Ms or perhaps Reese's Pieces.

The Chocolate Pizza Company also has created a special treat just for college students. The College Survival Kit is a box packed with delicious treats. The box include a mini dark chocolate pizza, a slice of milk chocolate pizza, chocolate-covered Oreo cookies, a chocolate and caramel drumstick and the perfect chocolate pizza accompaniment, Peanut Butter Wings. These wings are formed by mixing potato chips and peanut butter and then coating this sweet and salty mixture in rich chocolate.

On a food-related note, you can also send a gift for the dorm room, such as a coffee maker or an electric tea kettle. The kettle can be used to make tea, instant coffee and cereal, cocoa and soups. Other options might include a mini fridge or perhaps a microwave. You could also send along a care package with teas, coffees and other shelf-stable snacks.

Practical gifts are a great idea for new college students, and one option is to give the gift of laundry supplies. It might not seem like a bunch of fun, but doing laundry is a reality for college students. So fill up a basket with all the necessary laundry supplies and don't forget to add a few rolls of quarters.

Before heading off to college, you can surprise your student with a book bag or a laptop bag that can carry a ton of supplies. High quality headphones are another great option that can help a student focus or help them avoid bothering a roommate. Anything that is small and has several functions is a good idea, such as alarm clock that does duty as a speaker system and charger for an iPhone or Smartphone.
