Favorite Types Of Scrambled Egg Seasoning

By Elena McDowell

Scrambled egg seasoning at its most basic consists of salt and pepper. Many people enjoy adding only these simple spices but others like to experiment, adding many other seasonings. The taste of eggs is complimented by many other flavors, so the choice is wide. Various herbs and spices may be used and even vegetables, meats and cheeses may be added. A simple meal usually eaten for breakfast can be turned into a dish suitable for any time of the day.

Scrambling eggs requires a gentle heat and enough butter to coat the pan. Once the butter is foaming, whisked eggs are added and a wooden spoon used to gently push the sides into the center of the pan. This is just one of the many different methods used to make these eggs but the aim is to achieve a light, fluffy texture instead of a rubbery appearance. Unless the eggs are cooked properly no amount of seasoning can redeem them.

Many different spices can be used to give eggs a kick. Dice in some green chillies or put some salsa on the side or on top. Even curry can be added for those who enjoy Indian flavors. However, a simple pinch of paprika or cayenne pepper is also effective.

The flavors of many herbs work well together with eggs. They may be chopped and sprinkled into the mixture or used for garnishing. Parsley and basil work well for garnishing. Many people enjoy the taste of garlic and this works well together with mixed herbs. If you are looking for an Italian flavor, add oregano and thyme and a slice of tomato.

Using fresh vegetables is yet another option. Green onions, tomatoes and peppers combine well and are delicious when topped with some crumbled feta cheese. Spinach works well if it is steamed or sauteed first. Many vegetables are suitable but one needs to be careful with those that produce a lot of water.

Meat and cheese go very well with eggs and pack even more protein into a meal. Chopped bacon or ham may be added but remember that they contain sodium so extra salt will probably not be required. Melted cheese adds a wonderfully smooth texture, combining easily with the eggs. It is best to add the cheese shortly before taking the eggs off the stove giving it just enough time to melt.

For gourmet style eggs add several slices of cheddar and a good three tablespoons of cream cheese. Season with the chopped green onions and you will have a great meal to serve with an English muffin. A touch of capers, sun-dried tomatoes, chopped olives or roasted red peppers all go a long way to adding a gourmet touch. Smoked salmon and chives is another wonderful combination.

Eggs are relatively inexpensive, low in calories and high in protein. They are quick and easy to prepare. Scrambled egg seasoning is a key element to the taste and introducing the right herbs and spices can produce an amazing variety of different taste sensations from spicy and smoky to cheesy and creamy.
