Snow Crab Legs In The Midwest

By Adela Beasley

It may seem a bit strange but there is a seafood craze sweeping the middle of the country and there doesn't seem to be any end in sight. Much of it started with the building of various seafood based restaurants in the Midwest but others think it is because of the snow crab legs and their delicious taste.

Seafood comes in many ways. Shrimp is always a favorite for almost everyone who goes out for seafood. Even though it can also be a bit on the pricey side you can order them by the pound or even by the bucket full. With crab however you are always going to pay by the pound. This is why the fishermen will fill their boats holds with as many as they can fit. When they are weighed back at the docks they are paid by the poundage, not by the number caught.

It is also a misconception that when seafood is concerned lobster is more popular than crab. Lobster might be a bit more expensive but crab is definitely the better tasting. While they might be a bit messier to eat, you are going to need a big regardless so eating either is going to make anyone a mess.

It is a very dangerous job and one that none of the men take lightly. This is one of the reasons why they cost so much in the restaurants. Of course the other reasons are transport and the need to keep them fresh at all times. There is nothing worse than rotten seafood.

Crab on the other hand, of all the varieties that are edible, is most easily the messiest of the three being discussed. It is not uncommon for the waiter to bring a bib to the restaurant patron along with the dish. There is work involved in the meal also. You will be required to crack the shell and pull the meat from it.

This has become even more true after the airing of the various crab fishing television shows. Showing people in the Midwest just what these fishermen have to go through to bring them their "catch of the day" makes them more than happy to pay the higher price for the meal caught in the Bearing Sea. Of course not too many people advertise this, it is better implied.

Of the variety offered by most restaurants the lobster and the crab are by far the most popular. The various types of each can bring a fair price no matter where they were caught, but being caught in the Bearing Sea as opposed to being farm raised does hold a bit more flair and excitement. People often times want to eat the animal that is caught during a life and death battle.

Snow crab legs are one of if not the most popular based on restaurant orders. This is true for a couple reasons but most likely because they are not as pricey as some of the larger varieties and they are a bit sweeter naturally than other crabs. They have less of a fishy taste and more of a natural crab taste which seafood lovers enjoy.
