Best drive-through meals

By George Dodson

If you were a kid in the early 1960's or have watched movies and films with the retro theme then you're probably familiar with drive through restaurants. Back in those days, drive through restaurants were very popular. Waiters back then were called "Car hops" wherein all of them were sexy ladies. They wore uniforms in almost all occasions. Some even used skates to get the food out faster.

All you have to do is pull up your car in the drive through then a "car hop" would immediately come rolling in to take your order. Your order will then soon arrive on a special tray that is hooked on your car window. You'd consume the food and put the trash run on the tray, on the horn, and the car hop would come and retrieve your tray. Drive-ins were the subject of many of the beach boy movies, some of them were even famous.

A few of the commonly served food in drive through restaurants are fries, hotdogs, burgers, softdrinks like coke and pepsi and many more. In some places you can order chicken or grilled cheese sandwich.

With the constant improvement of technology comes also the improvements in the drive through business. Unfortunately, "car hops" with cute uniforms and cool skates is no longer utilized with todays drive-in restaurants. Still, some local entrepreneurs try to keep up a time-honored tradition. Their set up is pretty much simple and the prices are very much affordable. However, competition for this kind of business is very much risky specially if you're competing with major companies. What is the best drive-in food?

Among the most successful drive-ins in history is "Sonic". These drive-ins have a varied menu, easy parking, and in some cases you can drive through, pick what you want to eat, and pay at the window. There is no more need to bring a tray that can fit to your car window just to have your food delivered. Food is not brought to each customer through paper or plastic bags.

As for the question on which drive-in food is the best, it would be better if we base the answer on personal choice. Over the years, it seems that the hamburger has been the favored food and drive-in restaurants. For most of these drive-ins, the burger is easy to fix, and easy to price competitively.

Some of the more famous drive-ins such as Dairy Queen, and A&W root beer, had specialties that there famous for. The particular specialty food from these drive-ins will likely be the most reason why customers will take a vist. The special food from other drive-ins is what's likely to capture the customers attention and taste. A good example of these special foods in menus is the "Six dollar burger" from Carl Junior's drive-in restaurant.

With modern innovation, Dairy Queens chose to make ice cream their specialty food. Others, such as A&W root beer, favor root beer over most of the food that they served.

Of course, who can forget the big Mac, or the Burger King double whopper? Again, it seems to be that the burger is really the food of choice for those choosing to use drive-ins.

Many people have been concerned about the ingredients in some of these foods, and such stores like McDonald's began serving healthier meals such as salads and fruits. Essential contrarily well.
