Organic Farming & How Similar Maintenance Parlays Into Gaming

By Rob Sutter

As far as the most anticipated games I have on my list are concerned, "Animal Crossing: New Leaf" has definitely earned a spot. It's interesting because the genre that this game is tied to is something that I normally would not frequent: life simulation. I often find such titles to be boring but this one is far different because of a number of reasons. One of them is the level of work done, which is quality one can parlay into the act of organic farming as well.

Animal Crossing is pretty easy to get into, especially when you consider that each title in the series starts off in similar fashion. You have just arrived in a new place and, without anyone by your side, it's up to you to make a new life for yourself. Along the way, you meet a variety of neighbors to socialize with and go about a job that has you running about town, too. This is the type of game that never becomes boring, though, which is one of the greatest points about any game one can name.

You have to make sure that the town is pristine as well, which can be difficult when you consider how much nature can impact the scene. Keep in mind that, as a life simulator, it moves in real time, which means that progression is the same. This means that if you don't play regularly, it's possible that your town will become infested with weeds which have to be taken care of. If the town isn't properly maintained, it's also possible that neighbors will move out.

I believe that this level of work can also be attributed to the act of organic farming, too. This time, though, there's a certain level of work to maintain when you're appealing to consumers. They will come to your market in order to buy products and you do not want the quality of them to drop to any degrees. This is the mindset which is kept, especially for those who have decided to invest themselves in networks for farmers and customers alike, Colle Farmers Market included amongst them.

The concepts of organic farming can be found in other games, though, if you take the time to look. The Harvest Moon series is one that I have a good amount of respect for because it has taken such concepts and made them fun for the player. Personally, I wouldn't have thought that taking care of animals or growing plants could actually be enjoyable in the sense of a video game. However, as I have learned, surprises are still to be had in the world of video games.
