3 Tried And True Pointers To Remember For Running And Jogging

By Bob Steele

Jogging is a great form of exercise that many people enjoy which also helps boost their energy level and mood. Sticking with a jogging program week after week can become a challenge, though. To avoid slowing your progress way down, you also need to avoid getting injured. Stay healthy and motivated to jog with these tips.

It is extremely important for joggers and runners to pay special attention to their footwear. Your socks should be thick and made for athletic shoes. Jogging is very beneficial in many ways, but it also creates impact on the feet and ankles, and if you don't have good running shoes, you risk a variety of problems. Ideal running shoes will fit your feet well and are comfortable to wear, and will need to be replaced as soon as they start to wear out. Try out many brands and styles to find the best shoes for you. You increase the risk of spraining your ankle or knee if you run in shoes that don't fit your feet or that are breaking down. To take care of your feet, you have to pay attention to your shoes, which is the only real expense to running.

One good approach to begin with a running regimen is to do power walking which is quite common. If you are not used to exercise, or haven't done it for a long time, walking can be a great way to gradually get your body accustomed to moving around. The important thing is to listen to your body, and then just make gains according to how you feel. When the time is right, then just simply begin jogging slowly, and go according to your pace and feeling. When you proceed slowly and with caution, then you're reducing the chances of possible injury. Power walking can be a healthy and beneficial activity in itself, and people who cannot run because of an injury or health problem can power walk instead. We still recommend walking first because it's a safe and effective way to get used to running.

Make sure you drink enough fluids, especially water when you jog. Also, we have to say that you should never run on a full stomach. Ok? A little pure fruit juice is also good, but not anything with extra sweeteners, such as soda or energy drinks. Like food, if you drink too much water you can get cramps and vomit. Some people like to drink while they jog, whatever - it's up to you, really. Post jog hydration is a good idea, and you should only drink water - forget juice or vitamin water or all that other junk - pure water. The hotter and more humid it is, the more important it becomes to hydrate.

You can get a lot out of jogging, especially if you do it at least several times per week. Remember to use caution and common sense, which means stretching, wearing the right shoes and clothes and not overdoing it. Using these tips will help you maintain a solid jogging routine year round.
