Getting Creative with Gourmet Cookies

No matter what the occasion, whether it's a birthday celebration, a holiday or a department meeting at the office, gourmet cookies are always welcome. Generally speaking, cookies marketed as being gourmet are made with higher quality ingredients and/or include a higher standard of decorative work than do the cookies you'll find on the shelves of your local grocery store.

There are many different ways to take a cookie recipe and turn it into a rich dessert that will be savored and enjoyed.

One of the easiest ways to turn any cookies into gourmet cookies is to make them with the best quality ingredients you can find. You can also up the ante with decorative touches, such as cutting the cookies into a different shape than usual, using food coloring to make them a different color or simply drizzling a little icing on top. You may also want to experiment with different textures, since this can enhance the visual appeal of a cookie as well as its flavor.

If you're new to making gourmet cookies, remember that some of these recipes take practice and your Danish butter cookies or refrigerator cookies may not end up perfect the first time you make them. A little practice and you'll soon find that you can turn out excellent cookies every time, however. if your goal is to make truly gourmet quality cookies, then it is a good idea to use the right pans, utensils and other equipment. Find out what the professionals use and follow their lead as much as possible.

Decorating cookies is a time consuming job but one of the best parts about taking the time to do so is that you can make them suitable for any occasion with just some imagination and frosting. Decorated gourmet cookies will be the highlight of any party or school event that is being celebrated. One nice part about making gourmet cookies is that they make great items for gift baskets to celebrate birthdays, anniversaries, weddings or other events.

You can get a lot of ideas by reading magazines and websites; when you see a recipe you'd like to try, make a habit of writing it down or printing it out for future use when you want to try making something new. If you enjoy baking and want a new outlet for your creativity, making gourmet cookies is a great choice.
