Dulcia Domestica Is A Superb Italian Dessert Recipe

By Allan Hatchell

Italy is a country which is well-known for its cuisine, with many recipes from all over the country becoming known worldwide. Desserts are something that the Italians do very well indeed, with much more than ice cream on the menu in most Italian restaurants. If you are looking for a simple yet very tasty Italian dessert recipe for your sweet course, then Dulcia Domestica is one of the best recipes for sale out there.

This dish is believed to date back to the time of Ancient Rome, and there is certainly a richness to it that could almost be considered decadent. A simple to prepare dish which requires a little skill and delicacy to get perfectly right, this dessert will leave your dinner guests purring. The combination of dates and nuts is simply superb.

First of all, you need ingredients, in this case you will require around 12 dates and an ounce of chopped and toasted pine nuts. Three tablespoons of red wine and four of honey help to give the dish its appealing richness. You can also add a teaspoon of black pepper if you want.

The next stage of the process is to prepare your ingredients, this should take around 10 minutes or so. The dates that you are using should have the stone removed from them. You then stuff the dates with the chopped nuts, using the space in the dates vacated by the stone.

You then need to take a small pan, and place the stuffed dates in it. Cook them on a medium heat, and drizzle the wine and then the honey over them as they cook, but be careful to not use too much honey as this can make the dates stick to the pan and the serving dish. Keep them on a medium heat until the skin begins to peel from the dates, which should take around 15 minutes or so.

If you want, you can also sprinkle over the pepper, though this is optional and not essential for the dish's success. Then remove the dates from the pan and place them in a serving dish. Leave them to cool a little before serving, and eat them from the serving dish with your fingers for a really Ancient Roman touch.

While this dish might be unfamiliar to lovers of more conventional Italian American cuisine, its rich flavour is sure to be a hit with your dinner guests. This is an Italian dessert recipe which offers a taste of something different. You might well like it so much that dates become a fixture on your monthly shopping list.
