Halal Rations Are Readily Available

Individuals who want to maintain a strict religious diet do not need to worry when joining the military because Halal Rations are readily available. Carrying food on long hikes, backpacking, or assisting during disaster relief need not be an issue either when using these specially prepared rations. They are easily heated or can be eaten cold.

In order to follow the laws of Islam in regards to food, meats must be butchered in a specific manner. Alcohol in any fashion is not permitted but fruits, grains, and vegetables are. Modern times have presented a problem due to the ingredients used in many processed foods. Often, the processing aids, coloring, and flavorings contain forbidden items.

Often people think that Kosher food is okay for Halal but it is not. Again, with processed foods, there can be alcohol in the flavoring or colors that are Kosher but harem for Muslims. The Islamic requirements for butchering meat are different than Kosher requirements and often the enzyme or gelatin used in Kosher items not allowed for Muslims.

The prepared packages of complete meals are often called MRE, which is short for Meal Ready to Eat. They are easy to prepare under any condition. Drop the packet into a pot of boiling water or let it sit in the sun for thirty minutes. They can even be set on top of a hot engine for ten minutes and the main and side dish are ready to eat. The packages also contain drink mixes and snacks.

Most often people associate MRE with military use but other groups and individuals can use them. Hikers, backpackers, and campers use them because of their ease and light weight. They are also important to have for times of disaster, humanitarian relief, and survival if going on long treks through the wild. The MRE can be unpacked and prepared quickly which makes them perfect for all types of activities.

The United States and England are two nations that have establish standardized procedures for the availability of the religious meals to their soldiers. At established camps and bases where hot meals are served, the dining hall will list the food prepared and some other basic information. The number of religious meals prepared is based on the number of soldiers stationed there, with religious requirements. In the field, the mess tent or field dining hall will serve one hot meal and two cold meals, all prepared from MREs. The ration breakdown sent to the field will depend on the number of people that have special needs.

The MREs are prepared without any preservatives which means there is no risk of forbidden ingredients, such gelatin or alcohol in flavorings contaminate the food. Most are prepared with 1200 calories so that soldiers will be certain to receive enough fuel and nutrition to keep them healthy, strong, and mentally alert. They also come in a variety of sizes with different food combinations for non-military use.

For people who follow the strict diet of Islam, Halal Rations are the solution when going on long hikes, backpacking, or camping. They are also perfect for disaster situations, humanitarian relief because they can be eaten hot or cold and are easy to carry.
