How To Make A Chicken Plucker At Home

By Connie Sears

Farmers or those who are into the poultry business would know how time consuming and hard it is to pluck the feathers of their chickens. Of course the time and effort can be shortened if someone would make a device that would be able to pluck the feathers in an instant. Now if one would want this device, then do not worry because this guide will show how to make a chicken plucker at home.

Now the first thing to do would get a large plastic drum or wooden barrel. However, make sure that the drum or the barrel is not too big otherwise it will be hard to handle the chicken inside. It should be just tall enough to fit the entire arms inside.

Of course when the barrel has been acquired, then one has to be sure that there is something that will actually hold the thing in place. So in order to secure the contraption, one will have to make a wooden holder to keep it from falling. So to create this, get at least eight pieces of planks and nail them together to form somewhat of a holder where the barrel can be slotted inside.

After that, one should now drill some holes into the barrel. These holes will be the places where one will stick in some sharp wooden spikes which will actually serve as the tools that will pluck out all of the chicken feathers. So once some holes have already been drilled, create some wooden spikes and start inserting them in the hole.

When that is done, one should now try to create a disc object that is made out of wood. Now the disc should be big enough to fit inside the barrel but not too small as well. Just be sure that the disc has a little bit of space before it touches the sides of the barrel.

So once the disc has already been constructed, then one should now drill some holes into the disc that are the same size as the holes that were drilled in to the barrel a while ago. After that, take some wooden spikes that were made just now and start inserting these spikes into the small holes. Now take note that the disc is the part that will be providing the movement that will shred the feathers of the poultry.

The last step would be to attach a drill at the bottom of the device plug in the drill. Remember that the drill is quite big otherwise it will not be able to take the weight of the entire contraption. Now while the drill is underneath the contraption, one must always make sure that it is securely attached to the holder.

So basically, that is how to make a chicken plucker at home. For those who do not know how this device works, the disc at the bottom of the barrel will start spinning once the drill is plugged in. From there, the spikes that is found on the disc and on the walls of the contraption will tear all the feathers apart from the chicken.
