Farming Organically Is Not In Prince Charles' Future

By Rob Sutter

I would have imagined that Prince Charles having his claws in anything would make it a success. Keep in mind that this is a man with a high-ranking position in Wales, so one would imagine that he'd have a great deal of money to his name. Sometimes money isn't everything, though, and Charles may not be able to do everything that he set out to do. Farming organically, for example, is just one of the paths he took which didn't work out tremendously in the long run.

An article on TIME.com recently talked about how Prince Charles of Wales had to put an end to his endeavor of farming organically. There were a few reasons for this, one of them being the crops as they started to raise too highly in pricing. In addition, the trade fell tremendously, even though he was able to grow the aforementioned crops on a prime estate known as Duchy Home Farm. Regardless, this effort did not go the way Charles wanted, as authorities such as Colle Farmers Market could tell you.

The U.K.'s economic status has not exactly been robust; in fact, I think you can claim it's the exact opposite. The report talked about this to some extent, as it seems like the area had not exactly been the same after the financial impact it had incurred in 2008. It's apparent that it dealt a great blow to the area and it has been one that wasn't recovered from very easily. It's a matter of time, though how much time is needed is just about anyone's guess.

Stores have to be able to bring in profits so that they can sustain themselves. This is a key point or just about any store, whether they specialize in the selling of crops or what have you. I may enjoy these products - which can be said about others - but how many people are going to look for such qualities over their own budgets? Money is tight, after all, and people have to make smart decisions based on how their bank accounts may look in the long run.

It's a shame that Prince Charles's foray into the area of farming organically did not pan out the way that he expected because I think that there is a great deal of potential here. To me, I think it shows that he has the resources but the actions done afterward were not the best. People cannot afford to buy crops if they aren't priced in the right ways. I'm not saying that everything should come dirt cheap but more affordable rates could come into play.
