Tips On Beer Brewing For Beginners

By Michelle Howe

If you are the type of person who likes beer then you can learn how to brew it for yourself. There are kits designed for beer brewing for beginners. If you can get your hands on them then you should be able to make beer. There are several steps that you need to understand to make your home brewed product.

You need to buy malt extract. It is usually packaged in cans and to extract it easily, it is recommended that you soak it in hot water. This makes it soft and easy to pour. After extraction the next step is to mix it with completely boiled water. It is important to stir the mixture so that it can dissolve properly. The substance that you get after the malt has dissolved is called wort.

The wort should be boiled for about half an hour. Keep stirring every once in a while. After about 5 to 10 minutes while the wort is boiling, you should add hop pellets in the mixture. The next process you need to perform is sanitizing your fermentor. It is advisable to use about a gallon of water, an ounce of bleach and a sponge to sanitize the lid as well as the fermentor.

After the fermentor has been properly sanitized, cold water should be poured into it. The wort should then be added and the lid placed on top. The next step is to wait for the wort to cool till it reaches room temperature.

The next step is to hydrate the yeast. There are instructions that accompany the yeast when you buy it and you should follow them. After you are done hydrating it, add it to the wort. You need to get the lid off the fermentor quickly and when you pour the yeast it is advisable not to stir.

Add more water to the mixture until the air lock is halfway full. This is the final part in the fermentation process. Put the beer in a dark room that is held at room temperature. This should last for a period of 14 days. You should expect to hear bubbling if the process is going well.

The next stage after this is bottling. Start by having the caps and bottles sanitized. You can use water and bleach for the bottles. As for the caps it is recommended that you use a weak solution of bleach and water or vodka. You need to sanitize your tools as well. These include the siphon hose, racking cane, bottle filler and the bucket.

Place the bottling bucket on the floor and the fermentor on top of the kitchen counter. Boil the mixture of water and corn sugar and put it in the bucket. Siphon the drink from the fermentor to the bucket until it is filled. Place it on the counter and attach the bottle filler, the cane and the siphon hose and start filling bottles. It is important to leave some space at the neck of the bottle. The beer should be left alone for about 14 days before being consumed. Beer brewing for beginners is easy as long as you have the kit.
