The most awesome drive in food

By George Dodson

If you were a kid in the early 1960's or have watched movies and films with the retro theme then you're probably familiar with drive through restaurants. Back then, these were pretty much a hype. Waiters back then were called "Car hops" wherein all of them were sexy ladies. They wore uniforms in almost all occasions. Some even used skates to get the food out faster.

All you have to do is pull up your car in the drive through then a "car hop" would immediately come rolling in to take your order. She'll then come rolling to your car window with a tray of your specified order. As soon as you finish eating your food you can just throw your trash on the tray which the car hop will collect as soon as you blow your car horn. Drive throughs were basically used in most of the beach boy movie settings and a few establishments went very famous because of this.

A lot of drive-in restaurants back then and today serve popular fast foods such as burgers, fries and soft drinks. A few drive throughs were able to come up with innovations on their menu like the grilled cheese sandwich and the special orders for chicken.

Since then, a lot of changes have been made with regard to the drive-in business. Unfortunately, "car hops" with cute uniforms and cool skates is no longer utilized with todays drive-in restaurants. Still, some local entrepreneurs try to keep up a time-honored tradition. They have a simple setup, and prices are usually standard. However, competition for this kind of business is very much risky specially if you're competing with major companies. What is the best drive-in food?

One of the major drive-ins that seems to be successful is sonic. These modern drive-ins have their own specialty menus, they can even let you pass a drive through window where you can choose and pay for your order. There is no more need to bring a tray that can fit to your car window just to have your food delivered. Most the food is brought to your car in a bag.

Having to decide which drive-in food is the most palatable for everyone is quite a difficult question to answer. Over the years, it seems that the hamburger has been the favored food and drive-in restaurants. For most of these drive-ins, the burger is easy to fix, and easy to price competitively.

Some of the more famous drive-ins such as Dairy Queen, and A&W root beer, had specialties that there famous for. Most of the customers who go to these drive-ins, are therefore a specific food such as a specialized burger, or some special fries. Modern drive-ins feature specialty foods which consumer can easily take note of. An example of which is the special burger from Carl Junior drive-in known as the "Six Dollar Burger".

Over the years, such drive-ins as Dairy Queen, specialized in ice cream. Others, such as A&W root beer, favor root beer over most of the food that they served.

The Burger King double whopper is also something that each drive-in customer is looking forward to because of its size and its meaty taste. Yet again, we can see through here that burgers have the most variations and therefore has the most right to voted the best drive-in food.

Since the burger is mainly all meat, many start to question its ingredients as well as its effects to the health that is why other establishments such as McDonalds came up with alternative food like salads and fruits that they can place on their menus for health-conscious customers to choose from. Fortunately, this alternative works for customers as well.
