Drive through fast food

By George Dodson

If you grew up in the 60s, or watch such television shows such as Happy Days, you're familiar with the drive-in restaurants. At one time, these were all the rage. Waiters back then were called "Car hops" wherein all of them were sexy ladies. Often times they were special uniforms. The use of roller skates for waiters were very popular and very efficient back then.

Simply stop your car near the "carp hop" window and let her take your order. She would bring the food to your car on a special tray that hook onto your window. As soon as you finish eating your food you can just throw your trash on the tray which the car hop will collect as soon as you blow your car horn. Beach boy movies were such a hit back in the days and drive-ins were the mostly used settings which gave some drive-ins popularity.

A few of the commonly served food in drive through restaurants are fries, hotdogs, burgers, softdrinks like coke and pepsi and many more. In some places you can order chicken or grilled cheese sandwich.

With the constant improvement of technology comes also the improvements in the drive through business. They don't have the car hops and special uniforms or servers on skates. A lot other drive through establishments however still serve food in the same way as back in the days. Their set up is pretty much simple and the prices are very much affordable. However, competition for this kind of business is very much risky specially if you're competing with major companies. What is the best drive-in food?

One of the major drive-ins that seems to be successful is sonic. These drive-ins have a varied menu, easy parking, and in some cases you can drive through, pick what you want to eat, and pay at the window. Gone are the days when they bring trays that fit on your window. Most the food is brought to your car in a bag.

Having to decide which drive-in food is the most palatable for everyone is quite a difficult question to answer. Over the years, it seems that the hamburger has been the favored food and drive-in restaurants. For most of these drive-ins, the burger is easy to fix, and easy to price competitively.

Other renowned drive-in restaurants like A&W as well as Dairy Queen however offer various other foods for their customers. Most of the customers who go to these drive-ins, are therefore a specific food such as a specialized burger, or some special fries. Most of these drive-ins feature a special food that most consumers can identify with. One prime example is Carl Junior's six dollar burger.

Through the years, ice cream has also been made a specialty like Dairy Queens "specialized ice cream". Others, such as A&W root beer, favor root beer over most of the food that they served.

Of course, who can forget the big Mac, or the Burger King double whopper? Yet again, we can see through here that burgers have the most variations and therefore has the most right to voted the best drive-in food.

Many people have been concerned about the ingredients in some of these foods, and such stores like McDonald's began serving healthier meals such as salads and fruits. The good thing is that, people also like it.
