A Step By Step Guide To Making Gourmet Jams

By Grace Daniels

Jam has always been a very well loved spread for when a person eats bread because it is extremely sweet and has a unique texture. Of course it is always better to create homemade food because one will never know what extra things were added into the preserved gourmet jams that stores sell. So for those who want to create jam at home, here is how to do it.

Of course the first step would be to get some fresh fruits from the market because these will be used to make the jam. The most popular choices that most people use are of course oranges, strawberries, blueberries, and grapes. Now when gathering these fruits, it is always important to wash them thoroughly first and then pluck out the seeds.

When making jam, one must always make sure that he buy some pectin as this is one of the ingredients that will help make the jam have its lumpy but smooth texture. First, take a look at the box of the pectin put a little bit of it into a measuring cup. Then in a separate measuring cup, put a little bit of sugar inside and put both of them aside.

Once one has determined how much pectin to put, take out some sugar and set them aside for now. Take the fruits that will be used for the process and mash them or blend them with a blender. If one likes his jam very smooth, then he should mash or blend the fruits completely until there are no lumps left.

Once the blending has been completed, take a pot and boil some water in it for less than a minute. Then take all of the fruits and throw it all in the pot along with the cup of pectin then mix them all together. Once the ingredients have all been mixed together, then add the small cup of sugar inside of the mix.

Once all of the ingredients have already been added in, mix the entire concoction together until they all start to blend. From there, leave the mix to boil for around one or two minutes before stopping it. When a maximum of two minutes have already passed, turn off the stove and let it cool for another few minutes.

Take a bunch of empty jars and put some of the mix inside by using a funnel. For those who would really want to seal the jars so that it will be harder to open, just get a small pot and put hot water inside. Then put the jar inside the pot and let it stay there for about ten minutes before taking it out.

So for the people out there who love eating gourmet jams, try this simple recipe on how to make them at home. In fact, one may even sell these things for a substantial amount because many people live it. The best part is that it is homemade which means that it can be sold cheaper and it tastes better.
