Keep Your Weight Loss From Hitting A Plateau By Fooling Your Metabolism

By Ron Stucky

If you're like most of the people out there, you've probably tried various diets to different degrees of success. It is likely you lost some weight, got to a certain point and then, no matter what you tried, couldn't lose any more. The plateau thing is in fact fairly common--it is something that people deal with no matter what diet plan they follow. There isn't any way of avoiding this plateau unless you deceive your metabolism.

You probably have already experienced this plateau, which will normally end the diet plan with lots of discouragement. This is an unusual phenomenon, which happens to successful dieters about the third or fourth week of their diet. Up until that moment, the weight comes off and then it just stops and nothing you do can get your body to lose more weight. This is how your body does respond to all of the changes you have been forcing upon it. Your body switches into protection mode to avoid starvation, so it slows your rate of metabolism. What this winds up doing is keeping your body from losing any more weight.

This is what causes people to believe they're not capable of losing the weight they want, and they quit trying. This is just what causes a lot of people to start eating again and they usually gain back more weight than they lost initially. The way to stop this is to choose a diet where your calories just get shifted. This means you eat a different number of calories each day which can help deceive your metabolism. When this works, it stops your body from flicking the switch and going into protective mode. This will keep your body's metabolism rolling at its current rate as opposed to going slower and you'll keep on losing pounds. If you get to this point, you will have passed your plateau and your diet will keep on working the way it was created to work.

It is very easy to integrate this type of plan into your everyday routine. One of the more popular methods of caloric shifting is the 14 day method. This program goes for a couple weeks, where you do the usual plan for 11 days, and then 3 days where you try to eat what you want. Rotate your food throughout each day to fool your metabolism and then eat whatever you desire to keep yourself from getting to the plateau. This can also help you from being frustrated with a stringent diet plan. You could keep on repeating these 14 days until you really feel content with the amount of weight you have shed.

Yet another popular program is the 2 day plan in which you eat as normal one day and the following day reduce your calories by between twenty and thirty five percent. You do this every 2 days for as long as it takes you to arrive at your weight loss objectives. This is a program that deserves your attention because it could be just what you need to pass your plateau and lose all of the weight you want to lose.
